PhD Hoops USA Announces Teams for 2025 United World Games Experience

LOS ANGELES, CA – May 1, 2025 – PhD Hoops USA announces the teams, coaches and players who will represent the USA in the Girls (U19) and Boys (U19, U16 & U14) Basketball divisions at the 2025 United World Games. All five teams will be on tour from June 15-23, 2025 traveling to Italy & Austria while competing at the UWG, the largest youth tournament in Europe! The group will experience both high-level basketball and cultural sightseeing.

Coach Alex Moorehead, Head Coach (Oklahoma City, OK), recently completed his 4th season as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Ave Maria University (FL). In his time there, he was named the Sun Conference Coach of the Year, Region 6 Coach of the Year and also a finalist for NAIA National Coach of the Year. Before taking the lead in the college ranks, he served as Head Coach at Deer Creek HS (OK), earning a berth to the state tournament and coaching 4 players recognized with McDonald’s All-American status. Additionally, Coach Moorehead has served on staff at various other high school and college programs. He graduated from Southwestern Christian University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, earned his Master’s Degree from University College Dublin in Ireland in Strategic Management and Planning and is expected to finish his Doctorate Degree this year in Sports Administration and Higher Educational Leadership from Concordia University-Chicago.

Coach Marquintus Jones, Head Coach (Union, SC), is the Head Boys Basketball Coach at East Henderson High School (NC). Over the past 4 years, his teams have won 80 games, including a banner year this season (an undefeated regular season, a school-record 27 wins and a No. 2 seed in the state playoffs). Under his leadership, the program has won back-to-back regular season championships, 3 consecutive conference tournament championships and he has been awarded with multiple Coach of the Year honors as a result. Previously, he served as the Interim Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Limestone University, his alma mater, after spending 12 years on staff as an assistant coach. Coach Jones earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Limestone University and a Master’s Degree from Aspen University in Physical Education and Sports Management.

Coach Rob Burke, Head Coach (Murfreesboro, NC), is the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Chowan University (NC). Over the past two seasons, he has led the program to the best two-year record in over 30 years, including the most wins in any season during that time, and was named the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, he has also served as Interim Head Coach at UNC Wilmington (NCAA D1) and Head Coach at Spartanburg Methodist College (NJCAA), where his teams averaged 19 wins per season over 6 years and was named the Region X Coach of the Year. Additionally, he has been an Assistant Coach at UNCW, Colorado College, Georgia Southern, The Citadel, Campbell and Limestone. Coach Burke earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sport Management and a minor in Business Administration from Chowan University, where he played 4 years and still ranks in the program’s Top-10 in points, assists and three pointers made.

Coach Joe Dix, Head Coach (Gainesville, GA), is the longtime Head Boys Basketball Coach at East Hall High School, a powerhouse program in Georgia. Approaching his 30th season in coaching, he’s been a part of 3 state championships, 3 state runner-up finishes and several state playoff appearances. A 6x Coach of the Year recipient and multi-year conference championship winner, he has built a reputation for his aggressive, uptempo full-court style of play on both ends of the floor. He has coached 20 All-State players as well many who have gone on to play collegiately and professionally. Coach Dix currently serves as Vice President of Georgia Basketball Coaches Association and is the State Chairman for Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. He played at University of North Georgia, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Physical Education.

Coach Colin Doss, Head Coach (Greenville, KY), is going back to the United World Games for the 3rd year in a row, serving the last couple of summers as our Assistant Coach for the U19 Boys Team (Gold Medal) and Head Coach for the U16 Boys Team. Currently, he just finished his 1st season as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at John Melvin Christian College (FL) where his team finished with a 25-6 record and he was honored as the New South Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He is the youngest college head coach in the country. Coach Doss has risen up the coaching ranks quickly throughout his young career, previously as the top assistant coach at Brescia University (KY), acting as the Director of Player Development for Moore Buckets and the Program Director/Head Coach for Kentucky Supreme. He played 3 years of college basketball before graduating from Webster University with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. 

ASSISTANT COACH
Atom Johnston

Coach Atom Johnston, Assistant Coach (Elmwood Park, NJ), is new to PhD Hoops USA, but a highly experienced basketball coach and trainer. With over 25 years of experience in the game, he has coached both high school boys and girls varsity as well as serving as a STACK Basketball Certified Coach & Trainer and Head Coach/Director of the STACK AAU program. Additionally, he taught sign language for 25 years. Coach Johnston graduated from Union College (NJ) with his Associate’s Degree in American Sign Language.

ASSISTANT COACH
Nikias Schönerstedt

Coach Nikias Schönerstedt, Assistant Coach (Vienna, Austria), has been both a PhD Hoops USA player (2022) and assistant coach (2024) at the United World Games. As an Austrian native, he will again be joining us for 3-4 days to assist our coaching staff during the games. He is a current scholarship player at Seattle Pacific University, who won the Great Northwest Athletic Conference tournament championship this season and competed in the NCAA Tournament. He is set to graduate with his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management in June, 2026.

TRIP LEADER – Arvin Mosley, Jr. (Tacoma, WA)

Arvin Mosley, Jr. is one of our most experienced PhD Hoops USA Trip Leaders. As a coach the last 3 years at the United World Games, he led his U19 Boys Teams to both Silver & Gold Medals. In addition, he has been a key part of the PhD Hoops family the last several years as a Skills Trainer, Website Contributor and Coaches Roundtable Moderator. He is currently the CEO and Founder of Triple Impact Coaching and has been a head coach at both the high school level (currently) as well as the collegiate level (Tacoma Community College and The Evergreen State College). Mosley is a highly respected skills trainer for players at all levels and travels around the country conducting camps and training sessions. He played 4 years of college basketball while earning his Bachelor’s Degree in English from Central Washington University. Additionally, he earned a Master’s Degree from Georgia Southern University in Coaching.

TRIP LEADER - Kelsey Long (Pilot Mountain, NC)

Kelsey Long is a veteran PhD Hoops USA Trip Leader & Coach, who is going back to the United World Games for the 4th time this summer. She currently works with women’s basketball programs of all NCAA levels while serving as the VP of Women’s Basketball at Sport Tours International. Throughout her young career, she’s had various coaching staff roles at several NAIA and NCAA (I, II, & III) college programs while being heavily involved in working camps at many prestigious basketball powerhouses and with community outreach programs such as Samaritan’s Feet and Play 4 Kay. Long was a standout player at Belmont Abbey College where she received numerous Conference Carolinas awards and honors as well as serving as the President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management with two Minors in Business Administration and Psychology.
